Yamaha YHT-391

$400.00 Released February, 2009

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Acoustic suspension. Speakers are more compact than the YHT-390. IPod compatible.

The Cons:Plactic Cabinet. Does not process HDMI audio (a pass-through). Pricey, especially considering that it is an entry-level system.

The Yamaha YHT-391 is an entry level 5.1 channel home theater system from Yamaha's HTiB (Home Theater in a Box) lineup and is an upgrade to Yamaha's YHT-390 system.  The system comprises four two-way surround speakers each with a 2.5" woofer and a 1/2" tweeter and a two-way centre channel speaker with dual 2.5" woofers and a 1/2" tweeter.

The five satellite speakers all include acoustic suspension and are smaller than the speakers included with the YHT-390 although they produce the same RMS power handling of 100W.  The system also includes an 8" 100W subwoofer which, along with the satellite speakers, provides a 600W surround sound experience.

The YHT-391 is controlled by a 5-channel A/V receiver which features DTS digital surround and Dolby Pro Logic II technology for accurate decoding of surround sound sources.  It includes four SCENE buttons which are set to control the settings for each type of activity, making it easier to operate the receiver.  The receiver also has Bluetooth and iPod compatibility and includes 2 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output for connection to high-definition devices.  The YHT-391 comes with removable cloth grilles and has an MSRP of $399.95.
