Sony DAV-HDX265

$270.00 Released February, 2008

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Very good sound performance for the price, especially with DVDs. Main unit and speakers are all very compact--fits well in nearly any setup. Included calibration microphone makes setup a quick, painless process.

The Cons:Speaker wires use proprietary connectors. 5-disc changer is very slow to switch and load discs. Lacks a digital audio input--limited to the built-in disc changer.

The most affordable of Sony’s BRAVIA DAV-HDX home theatre systems, the DAV-HDX265 also boasts the fewest features. While it still features a 1080p upscaling 5-CD/DVD changer with HDMI output and full 5.1 surround sound, it lacks the S-AIR wireless speaker technology of all the other players in the line (for $30 more, the DAV-HDX275 player supports S-AIR, and wireless speakers can be purchased for $149.99 direct from Sony).

Product Shot 2 Like its more expensive counterparts, the DAV-HDX265 does feature BRAVIA Sync, which surrenders some of the player’s control functions to any Sony BRAVIA HDTV it is plugged into, allowing for simplified set-up and playback of media. It also features a dedicated Digital Media Port, for connecting DMP-compatible accessories (sold separately) and managing digital media.

Features

  • Upconverting 5-CD/DVD changer with HDMI output
  • Automatically calibrates audio to optimize sound quality
  • BRAVIA Sync feature for owners of Sony BRAVIA HDTVs
  • Does not support Sony S-AIR wireless technology
