Panasonic SC-BT203

$499.91

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Surround sound is effective, gives good 3D sensation. Setup is simple, speakers plug in quickly in an obvious color-coded way. Speakers have a small footprint, take up little room.

The Cons:Cabling system is proprietary, can't easily be replaced or repaired. Some lockups after watching a number of movies in a row. Not audiophile quality; boomy bass, overly brassy mids.

The SC-BT203 is a mid-range Blu-ray home theater system from Panasonic. It utilizes a 7.1-channel set-up, combining seven Bamboo Cone speakers and a Kelton subwoofer for 1000 W of total output power. The Blu-ray player supports BD-Live, has an SD/SDHC card reader for AVCHD/JPEG playback, and features an ethernet port for firmware updates.

The system supports VIERA CAST, a Panasonic service which connects to web content, from video- and photo-sharing sites to weather and traffic reports. Other features include an integrated iPod dock and Smart Setup software, which aims to simplify the process of installing and calibrating a surround sound system. The SC-BT203 has been discontinued, superseded by the SC-BT200 in early 2009.
