Onkyo HT-S6400
$699.00
Released April, 2011
The Pros:Can convert all inputs to 1080p and adds a lot of detail. Audessy setup balances the speakers quickly and efficiently. Satellites are small enough that you can fit them in anywhere.
The Cons:Center channel is designed to lie on its side but the base is curved, tends to rock a bit. Nothing protecting the underside of the subwoofer, easy to damage the down-firing driver. Instructions for iPod interface are a bit confusing.
The Onkyo HT-S6400 replaces the S6300 as Onkyo's mid range 5.1 system. Whilst the S6400 is similar to the S7400 in the sens that they are both 5.1 systems, the S6400 uses slightly lower quality speakers, the A/V receiver does not support analogue signal up scaling, and it does not have network connectivity (ethernet port).

This system include five 130W satellite speakers and a 120W subwoofer. The receiver is capable of processing Dolby TrueHD, DD Plus, and DTS-HD Master Audio codecs. As with the S7400 system, the S6400 has a built in Audyssey automatic speaker calibration system. The S6400 supports a range of input options including optical, coax, composite, component video, and HDMI ver. 1.4a with 3D capability. The Onkyo HT-S6400 is a good option for buyers looking for a high quality 5.1 home theater but do not need the extra connectivity option of the S7400.
