The Pros:Uses the manufacturer's proprietary adaptive surround sound system - allows users to place speakers wherever they want. Small footprint - surround speakers are only 3" tall - great for smaller rooms. Great for those not interested in HDTVs or Blu-ray discs.
The Cons:DVD only - no support for Blu-ray discs. Stark white remote control - doesn't match the rest of the package. Lacks HDMI input - only compatible with Component for HD inputs.
The Bose Lifestyle 18 is a 5.1-channel, DVD surround-sound system featuring a central media receiver, five miniature cube speakers, and an Acoustimass woofer module. The tiny cube speakers — each only 3” high — deliver high frequency music, whereas the Acoustimass handles all the low frequency effects.

At its core is Boss’s proprietary ADAPTiQ system, which automatically calibrates to compensate for room dimensions and any other notable variables. This allows the user to place the five speakers in any which-way they want. And it’s loaded with all the latest decoding technology — including Digital 5.1 and Videostage 5 — for ensuring pure surround-sound performance from any source. And the Lifestyle 18 hosts enough inputs/outputs to connect to TVs, VCRs, PVRs, cable boxes, and satellite receivers, to name a few.
